As a homeschool resource program Saint Benedict Hall wants to help connect likeminded homeschool families in shared educational opportunities and experiences. There are two avenues that we hope to help parents connect:

1. Encourage parents to post on the #general on Slack with an idea and connect outside of Daybreak. This is a great way to do fun electives, study groups, and other extra curricular experiences together in community. Giving Deacon Ben a heads up with your idea would be ideal, but not required ;) There is no formal proposal or application process for this, parents do not need to complete any SBH abuse training or background check, and parents do not need to affirm or subscribe to any of SBH’s convictional documents (SBH’s Vision for Culture, SBH Statement on Gender, Marriage, and Sexuality, the Apostles and Nicene Creeds, or teaching in conformity with the Jerusalem Declaration). However, for liability reasons, we can’t have these classes held on the Daybreak campus. The organizer can charge whatever they want directly to the parents. The organizer will communicate with parents via email or text (not a dedicated Slack channel).

2. SBH chooses a handful of Afterschool Classes each year that we partner with parents in a more formal way. We will call these“SBH Approved Afterschool Classes”. Since SBH is putting its name on these classes, there will be more review of these classes and more accountability, yet also more support from SBH. These are classes that the SBH Admin Team feels has a meaningfully connection to our philosophy, mission, vision, and ethos as a program. For these classes, we ask the prospective organizer to complete the application below and they will be reviewed by the SBH Admin Team. To offer a “SBH Approved Afterschool Class”, the organizer will be required to do the same thing we ask SBH substitute teachers: complete an abuse training, background check, and fully affirm to the SBH convictional documents (SBH’s Vision for Culture, SBH Statement on Gender, Marriage, and Sexuality, the Apostles and Nicene Creeds, or teaching in conformity with the Jerusalem Declaration). For these classes, we can coordinate to hold them on the Daybreak Campus. The organizer will charge parents directly. The SBH Admin Team can decide which classes to have each semester, and some proposals may not be approved. If a proposal is not approved, the organizer can still do their idea following avenue #1. If the Admin Team does approve of the idea, SBH may be able to work with the organizer to create a simple webpage and create a Slack channel for communication with parents. For an organizer to be approved to do a “SBH Approved Afterschool Class” they need to have been in the SBH community for at least 6 months. Like a SBH tutor, the SBH Admin Team can end the partnership with the organizer if there is unbecoming behavior or teaching that does not align with SBH’s convictions.
