Tour & Interview Schedule

Please bring your $50 application fee (a check made out to Saint Benedict Hall, or Zeffy ) to your visit

  • Arrive at 11:15 am on your scheduled day at Daybreak Church in Kailua (1230 Kailua Rd). The campus is located next to the YMCA parking lot.

  • You will be met on the lanai by Deacon Ben, spend some time getting a tour of the campus, and given time to visit classes from 11:15am - 11:40am.

  • At 11:40am you and your family are welcome to join the school community for our midday prayer service in the sanctuary.

  • At 11:45am parents will meet with the admissions team for our informal interview in one of the classrooms. Applying students are asked to join us for five minutes to talk story, and then they are welcome to eat with the other kids and join them for recess. Our admissions team includes one of our teachers, one of our parents, and Deacon Ben. You can plan on it being casual with all of us eating lunch together, so please bring a lunch! We are excited to hear more about your story and where you are coming from! This is also a great chance for you to ask any questions you had during your tour or things you’ve been wondering about the program.

  • Both parents and all your children (including younger siblings) are welcome to come. If both parents can’t make it to the tour & interview that is okay, but we’d love to be able to meet both parents if possible. Younger siblings can stay with you during the interview time, and your older kids can have the option to join the other students for lunch & recess.

  • Following your visit, we’ll respond to your family within 2 weeks of your interview. If accepted, you have 2 weeks after receiving an acceptance letter to confirm enrollment.

  • We’ll wrap up our interview before 12:40pm.

8 EXPECTATIONS OF OUR PARENTS

  1. Exhibit an understanding of homeschool education or a genuine curiosity and interest in learning more about homeschooling. Parents should be ready and excited to collaborate with SBH at home.

  2. Have a growth mindset– families should have a willingness to allow their children to be challenged and struggle in order to mature. Parents shouldn’t be overly protective, hovering, or wanting to eliminate difficulty socially or academically.

  3. Families should be active in their church community with other Christians or are actively supportive to collaborating with SBH as a Christian program. Parents are not required to be Christians, but they shouldn’t be combative or threatened by their children being taught Creedal Christian stories, values, or truths. SBH will unapologetically teach from a Biblical worldview as interpreted in Nicene Creed.

  4. Parents should be actively supportive (not reluctant) of their children receiving a classical Christian education.

  5. Families should be willing to handle conflicts respectfully, graciously, discreetly, and carefully, while believing and speaking the best about each individual involved.

  6. Parents should embody (or growing toward) a disciplined approach to learning that values courtesy, kindness, courage, diligence, attention, and self control. Parents should view discipleship as a life-long calling that starts by being modeled in the home.

  7. Children enrolled as students at SBH should be teachable and responsive to correction of tutors– demonstrating a willingness to live in community according to the policies in our handbook.

  8. Families should have healthy and age appropriate boundaries on screen time, media content, and social media.
